who can tell me how to recover an autocad file after the system froze? something about renaming an extension somewhere....

If you mean the autosave files, you have to go to the folder designated for autosave, and find the file with extension .ac$. The file name will start with whatever the file you were working on was. Just change the extension to .dwg, and it should open at the point that acad last autosaved. The default folder is //documents and settings/"username"/local settings/temp
