how many phone lines - say 56k are in 5 Gbits?
I know its around 100 T3 lines.....but I need to simplify this for the audience of my presentation

easy there is 1000000/kbps in a Gibabit connection so 1000000 devided by 56 = 17857.142857143
no that probably isnt all to technicaly correct but that's pretty much it.

1 gigabit (1073741824 bits) / 56kilobits (56000 bits) = 19173.961142857
19173.961142857 x 5 = 95869.805714285
thats a lot of phone lines (assuming my working out is correct)

just make it up, I mean, they aren't going to know - just make sure you wave your arms about enough and maybe even slap the desk as you do it.. like this "thats equivelant to 12000, yes you heard right *slap desk* 25000 standard phone lines.
just sign on the dotted line folks"
