some books should stay books.
I think Depp is a brilliant actor and I love Tim Burtons work, but this, of all stories, should not be hollywoodalised, yet again.

don't see it then.
That's sucha boring attempt at remaining 'intellectual' and not 'selling out' so-to-speak.
It's just a freakin' movie - and it's probably gonna be fun to watch. It's a great story - No one can do Gene Wilder... so don't even attempt to compare it to the old movie.
It's just another fun film.. c'mon folks.

maybe it would've been more fitting for burton to have done the sequel... "charlie and the great glass elevator"

thats what I was thinking...why fuck up a great movie? the original is great

yeah the 2nd book is what he should have done, they probably will. like batman 1 and 2 so it fits well together.

I really thought this was going to be good, but I saw a preview today and it looked like "shit."
Damn it, and I had my hopes up. :(

looks cool, but there is no way its gonna top the original. nothing can.

if Burton has stuck to the book then it will be good.If it's purely a remake then I might have doubts but i would till go to see it, it's been years since i seen the original. I thought the preview looked pretty good.

I saw the original the other week and I also love tim burtons stuff so I am excited, but it would have been good to see Charlie and the Glass Elevator, and really let loose.

There's no earthly way of knowing
Which direction we are going
There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing
Is it raining?
Is it snowing?
Is a hurricane a-blowing?
Not a speck of light is showing
So the danger must be growing
Are the fires of hell a-glowing?
Is the grisly reaper mowing?
Yes, the danger must be growing
'Cause the rowers keep on rowing
And they're certainly not showing
Any signs that they are slowing

People are talking crazy here.
That shit is hardcore psychedelic.
The new '200 Motels'.
Burton sees greatness in the American movie heritage, a true connaisseur of all the lesser know [and loved] moviemakers. And he's an artist.
And Johnny Deppp can do no wrong.

hmmm... interesting how a lot of you are complaining about them doing a remake of a movie rather than a different version of the same book?
The original film was quite a bit different from the book and apparently this is going to be closer to Dahl's original.
Which hopefully means it will be dark...

now if burton will remake the sound of music i might go and see it :)

Word.
Amen.

Why does it have to top the original? Come on, tell me why!
Why does it have to be classed as a re-make?!
Get over yourselves...
It's a film. Based on a book. It'll be fun.
Watch it and enjoy it, or stay the fuck away from my popcorn.

posted by my friend kev :
"strictly kev [12.01.05, 13:37:26]
Just on the phone to a friend of mine who worked on the film and i expressed a concern that Depp's Wonka looked more like an Austin Powers character in the trailer than i'd anticipated.
She told me that he'd based his take on Wonka on Michael Jackson, hanging out in Neverland with all the kids etc.
Gives it a whole new light"
