powerbooks are awesome, but youve already figured it out...you dont need it....

Don't do it. They must be about to release a new line of PBs soon. They are too exy for what you get at the moment me thinks.

Powerbooks are way better than vaio, but its a question of, how are you going to get the software? its a different platfrom, do you really need it?
the computer is awesme, but its a big change if you are already on pc..

powerbooks are the dopeness for sure
but
tru, the g5 powerbook cant be far off
and the battery life leaves much to be desired, on mine anyway!

my PB suxors. Been in the shop more times then I can remember...oh wait its all coming back to me...
Keyboard has been replaced twice and now the contrast buttons dont work, stopped recognizing the battery, now as the Mac tech put it...'its having kernel problems...so you have to reformat it'...all this and I hardly ever use it.

Listen to the angel :)
I work mostly on a PC, but I had used Macs many times. I ended up getting a Powerbook for school. It is nice and all and I really like it but I don't see what all the hype is. A nice vignette on the screen caused by that stupid glowing apple logo. OSX I don't find to be anymore stable than XP, and if you are comfortable with Windows platform in the Vaio you can save yourself alot of money. I find my 2 going on 3 year old PC still noticably faster and more responsive than my 3 month old Powerbook.
And yeah something new in the powerbook line is due relatively soon.

buy your folks a nice christmas present instead? have a 1000$ dinner with your girl/boyfriend? buy your pet a neat Versace cloth for the winter? spoil yourself, it's the gift-buying season. you already got a machine.

save you money up for the G5 powerbook whenever that comes out....
since you have the vaio.. enjoy it for now.

Where are the contrast buttons on the powerbook? wow, I never even knew it had those.
I had mine for at least 2 1/2 years. I use it to perform at live shows at least 3 times a month, I had never had a crash while performing ( I did had flash close on me a few timeas at home though) and that is why I can't use a pc, pc's are cheaper yes, but at least on my experience ( I switched on 95) with them THERE IS NOT A SINGLE CHANCE that a pc will be more stable than a mac. I have not used xp too much or under the same circunstances I use my mac today, but based on past experiences I decided to spend a little more, its my main work tool, and it brings me peace of mind.
