There was a whole jazz series on BBC4 I think. Here's some other stuff the Beeb's done http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcfour/mus…
Baskerville, cool design, but i'd give someone a smack if they put that in front of me! ;)

yeah it twas I, did you find those comps on CD or did you get them on vinyl. So many great tracks on those comps, I'm trying to mix up an hour set of just tracks from those comps.

I love Tower of Power. I've seen them twice in the last couple of years. Jeff Tamelier is their current guitarist, luckily he's not into 'helping' athletes
But an drummers out there should check out David Garibaldi's playing. The man is awesome.

that's awesome Baskerville
i'm working on an interactive tv application next year that maps Beethoven pieces with visual clues, trying to visually represent different audio motifs that get repeated throughout the piece, movement progression, key changes etc while the piece is playing.
The classical radio people were talking about how use of colour to represent key changes can be "very controversial" within sectors of the classical community, heh.

No way snuggles, he made millions legitimatley selling Zinc supplements before he started doping

Biofeldt, are you a drummer? I am but rarely play these days, very few jazz combos out here in the sticks and I cant be arsed to drive a long wayse and not drink.
Just listening to Miles at Newport. Classic line up; Jimmy Cob drms, Cannonball Adderly alto, Paul Chambers, Bill Evans piano, Coltrane tenor + Miles

Garibaldi is one of my all time favourite drummers of all time. All their stuff up to the end of the seventies is wicked (apart from the ballads which are pretty much all shit. Why did they record them) Live and in living colour is fucking amazing! I thinkMr THG's on it actually.
I saw them at the end of the 90's just after Soul with a capital S album. Same horns and Francis Rocca Presta on the Bass. Can't remeber the rest of the bands names.

snuggs, on cd, i dont own turntablesl nor own vinyl (beside a kid n play 'funhouse' single) but i can appreciate the art and science of it. what im trying to do is learn music theory so i can do covers of my fav music on guitar and piano (can't do much besides some rock riffs right now) anyhow my current project is to do a cover of teh madvillain album, playing all the melodies on the album with different music genres. i have ideas on makign my own tunes and then sampling them or letting them being sampled...so this will be my first undertaking of such a project, sort of a fun way to learn music i guess. i'l let u hear it when its done, its should be dub/ska heavy and have that stark reality sound if all goes well!

If anyone wants to learn more about jazz theory, I highly recommend Jamey Abersold books:

he does some cool play along books too
Somewhere on his site there is a chord diagram that tells you all the scales you can play over any chord type!

Tower of Power are such a good live band. I've never been to a concert where everyone was dancing all the time.
Bloefeld I assume you're a drummer, I'm a guitarist but I play a lot with my friend who's a jazz drummer. I think most drummers lover garibaldi.
Oakland Stroke has a killer drum part, I also love Squib Cakes

Sure am Touloz, yeah, I live in London, been playing 20 years now, (since I was 9) and took 3 years off the kit until last march. Got back into by going to Richmond Jazz school. Got quite a few gigs. Had one last night vocal led quintet and got a gig friday, latin jazz stuff Manteca etc. There's quite a good scene in South west London actually.

I had this chart by Garibaldi where it was all syncopated, went from 4/4 to 5/4 to 3/4, if you played under a section playing in 4/4 it sounded mentally sycopated because it caught up with itself! He teaches mainly now i think. Yeah, What is Hip is the one for me. Awesome!
- Baskerville0
"What is hip? tell me, tell me if you think you know..."
If you live in London make sure you get along to the Astoria when they next play. It seems to have become a yearly thing

If you're on the West side o london you should get down to a few jam sessions. There's a good on at Jagz in Ascot on Monday nights. I do that quite a bit. It's stopped for christmas, will start up agin mid Jan. Me and a few mates are looking to start up a latin jazz jam at the SO Bar in Fulham soon too. That'll be Sunday nights I expect. You ought to get your sorry arse down.
Fuck i don't do any practice, you'll nick all my work! Stay away!!
