hey,
sorry to come across as more ignorant than usual but could someone explain how to unload a level or mclip (external swf) and replace it with a new section, including a 'fade-out' style of animation on the outgoing swf?
the way i do it–loadMovieNum' simply replaces it immediately and i'd love to smoth it more.
example is the Newlyn site in the NTB section (left).
any advice appreciated.

on whatever your event is (onClick, etc.), instead of loading the new movie, gotoAndPlay a frame in the loaded movie that plays the fadeout animation.
if you need to determine a specific movie to load, have the event set a variable that gets check at the end of the animation (if x==movie_02 loadMovieNum etc...).
That's the general idea, anyway.

yeah, i've got the goto thing setup with the final frame unloading the level but how do i setup the loading of a specific new movie?
i was going to have each movie (7 total) use a seperate level with a blank space at the start to account for the unloading of the previous section (using the play and unload to be onClick and the loading of the new using onRelease) - only as i'm no AS thinker.

yeah, i'm not your best AS resource either, but...
whatever action trigger the goto, have it set a varible in the root level (newmovie=movie1). then, at the end of the animation of the loaded movie say, "if _root.newmovie==movie1, loadMovieNum1" or whatever the correct syntax is. follow that with "if _root.newmovie==movie2, loadMovieNum2", etc.

actually:
is it possiblee to pass variable values throughout levels?
could i have a loadMovieNum action setup to load a 'variable'.swf (on the last frame of the outgoing swf) and variable is given a value in the navigation (level1) movie?
HEEELLPPPPP!

i was writing my last msg as you were doing same by the looks!

u shouldn't target levels:
use the createEmptyMovieClip method to make holders for your content.

just so i can learn:
how does this improve the situation? why are levels a bad idea?
