Well I'm moving to Sydney on my own next year to study Graphic Design Production at CGC (1 year, full time) then do a Graphic Design Diploma at Enmore in 2006-2007.
I'm, just wondering how much you spent on rent + bills + food + transport in an average week? And then what's entertainment come to on top of that?
I'm 19 years old and my parents are going to give me a little financial support out of the nest but they can't afford to much past that as they're paying my sister's way through UNI + fully catered on-campus accommodation ($250/week) at ANU starting next year and she's going to cost them a shitload more too because of medical reasons which I cbf going into.
So I'm wondering how much It'll probably end up costing me to live every week (which will directly equates to how much I'll have to work/earn). Probably going to rent a 1 room studio in SURRY HILLS. If I can afford any forms of entertainment on top of living costs I'll be doing very damn well for myself I think (I'll have course costs too, but the initial fee is taken care of as I can pay that back to my folks when I can afford it).
So how much do you spend a week on rent, bills (if applicable), food, transport and also entertainment, and of course, WHERE do you live, and in WHAT?

Hey dude, I studied in Perth Australia,
Lived in a share house with two other design students.
rent $80 per week
food $70 per week
transport $30 per week (for two buses everyday.)
bills $40 per week.(mobile-internet included)so around AU$220 (U.S.$170) perweek if you dont smoke.
we could walk into the city too so that helped on transport

if you live in newtown, where most students live, you can walk to enmore, also you'd be mad to get a studio on your own. If i was you id share a house with a few others, better and cheaper rent and you can split the bills, plush much more social. Sydney can be done cheaply. And good choice in cities too, its great here

Which suburb are you livin' in Slappy?
Oh and yeah, I wasn't even considering a studio until I started looking at prices. I couldn't find any decent shares for under the $100/$110 mark, a noticed studios started around $130. The only reason I'd prefer a studio is that I'll probably doing work from 6pm onwards which means getting home and cooking dinner quite late, not to mention a shower (didn't wanna disturb others). The privacy would be nice I spose but like you said, sharing is much more social, which I'd prefer. I just didn't notice much of a difference in price when I was looking round online.

I used to pay $150/w for a big room in a share town house (4 bedrooms). It was located in McMahons Pt wich is a nice suburb, close to everything an in my case close to college wich was my top prio. I also lived down in Bondi wich I really liked. I wouldn't stay in Newtown. Paddington around Oxford St. on the section between taylor square and bondi junction would be my prefered choice if i moved back now. Probably in a security building with pool and gym. You could get that for $200 easily if you share.
expenses: Eat $5 steaks sunday-thursday. :-) don't drink crown lager and don't pay for chicks. Imo Sydney is a cheap city but then i'm used to pay $10 for a bigmacco.
