Overall a very impressive professional site. A bit 2 big n bubbly for my liking but i like the overall style they are trying to achieve. Awesome attention to detail and i have to commend the use of insight videos for their projects... This is rarely used by any other agency and really does help give an insight, feel and quality of the projects the have worked on...
Well thats my 50c worth!

Liquid
totally understandable from your business perspective - best of luck reelin' in the big fish!
Dutch - I know I know, dig dig.
I must admit...I come here and I see trend, trend, trend...but at least once a week..I see something in the NTB or PBS that just blows my mind. I mean...yea. I dunno - Everything is derivative to a degree! In the meantime while I cook up some masterplan of 'original' thought...I just try to stay clean (maybe those swiss professors are having their way with me)

don't get me wrong.....I love designing and doin my check out nyc for all sorts of architex type stuff for inspir..... but too make a quick 5k in 2-3 weeks compared to 6 weeks for original stuff....
and they know what they are getting... I tell them its templates and they are like who cares......I say if they want to pay.....screw em..... its there fault if someone comes up to them and goes.....HEY HAVENT I SEEN THAT DESIGN SOMEWHERE.....
I have it in the contract and I already got it worked out with template monster..... sucks but it was a business decision....I still get my original clients...I am just more selective.... allows me to go for the biggies instead of working at best buy while I look for the big fish

chimchim,
it is not that i blame them, it is jsut obvious. look at their clients.
if that is their choice i am down with it.
they seem to be good at it as well.
and btw. there's plenty of original stuff out there, just just need to find it.. [thank god]

ok..i admit...I have used the same flash elelemnts once in a while...
and I totally reuse code like a champ in flash and php.

holy toldeo liquid...
I only templatize backend systems...but design is totally unique as I can make it for each client. - then again..I only work for a few clients per year freelance.
at pentagram I get to design stuff sometimes..like take a project from the beginning...but when I go there for 3 months at a time..then go back to school..it's usually jumping into production of something.

I say for anything less then $5k use a template..... then you can justify that amount to yourself....
and then take 2-3 weeks to do it..... do the math ....instead of like right now my "original" client is taking 8 weeks and we finally finalized the design and now they are finally supposed to get the content together..... the site was supposed to be done Nov 17th... dec 10th with the delay clauses......yah right.... there is no way they are delivering for me to get it done by next week....
- liquid0
if you want to talk about taking too much time for something......clients don't even want to spend the time on design anymore.....
So they want to spend more time on content and just revising something instead of coming up with something original... I still make the same amount of dough just not from designing but from refining an existing design....
I use monstertemplates.com I dont care anymore.... I will work on my own stuff and be original.....my own blog sites...my company sites....friend sites....and stuff for school if I ever go back...
otherwise....for the money....just make it.....
I think I am going to save face and put up a site that just features templates from monster and offer them to my customers as revision only templates....non unique..... I don't care anymore.... I have a few "original" clients still.....so I still get to flex my creative muscle.....

...
maybe I'm just lazy !
- liquid0
and they never did propod......
all talk.......

Dutch,
what is original now-adays...
whenever I want to jam on something new...I stay off NT for about a month or so...but of course I come back with my 'new' thing and find 5 other people doing it..or have done it.
So... honestly..I'm not all about trendy. Much of what I consider trendy is in fact very difficult to produce and I give major props to people for crafting it. I'm not sure anymore..do I just want to do swiss design and code..or do I want to really expand my design styles into new areas.(am I shying away because it's too time consuming to produce a certain style - maybe)

I was waiting for Godzilla to crash through the guys with the turtlenecks office. His lips didn't match the words. I liked the scope, though.

thanks john & fate

i'm in to that. toothaches and all
- DutchBoy0
they are very commercial so no need to be original.
most clients fear originality these days.
they just want bevels.
