can anyone point me to resources showing me how to make an illustration look realistic? besides gradients/transparency.
seems like im missing something...wish brooke had her tutorials up!

just push the realistic button.
- warheros0
oh yeah, i didnt even see that.
thanks!

your question is extremely vague. There's no one trick or tip, or handful of them. It just takes practice.
Or just use the realistic tool. It's next to the realistic button.
- grayhood0
i prefer the button, using tools ruins my nails.
- warheros0
well i was HOPING someone would give me some insight to some techniques they find work really well. but instead ill just keep using the realistic tool.

funneh im totally doing realistic illustration right now
just started so it looks very vectorie right now.
- dopepope0
Are you in illustrator or Photoshop or just using the traditionals?
- warheros0
that's pretty sweet. vectors are neat.
maybe id like doing this if it wasnt a fucking ghey picture of a bird. stupid bird. be unboring!

just a matter of following your basic fine art details of line, shadow, form, light, color etc. and finding ways to execute them in a vector program.

get friendly with the mesh tool, play with the colors and spend tons of time on it.
and let's not forget the realistic filter.
- warheros0
yeah that's the same with everything.
im in illustrator.
more like...are there textures i can add to make it look real? some kind of tool im not using? NOT THE REALISTIC TOOL IM ALREADY USING THAT.
- warheros0
yeah ive been messing around with the gradient mesh. sometimes she gets a little angry though with all the playing around.
- grayhood0
she is a harsh mistress.

I feel like vectors tend to make things look kind of corpselike unless you make them more stylized and less realistic
either that or use the lifelike button

I think you should post an example, easier to see what, if anything, is missing. I also suggest you combine Illu and Photoshop for best result.

ah yes rand.. they tend to look real plasticie.. like realistic people end up looking like a maniquin
