I'm going to be putting a small flash swf on an html file which already has a lot of content. I need to know if it's possible to code the html somehow to say if the user doesn't have flash, to replace the flash SWF with a static GIF image.
I already know how to make it point to a separate HTML document if the user has no Flash, but this time I just want to replace the single image instead of redirecting to another page.

You can do it automatically when you publish your file in the HTML settings.
But there is also a newer standards compliant method. See Alternative content at the bottom of the page.

I'm wondering... if you placed a background image in a DIV, and then overlayed it with the flash file, would you see the image if you didn't have Flash installed? Or would there be a big blank box with a red X in the corner?
