Flash question
Im looking for sites that use the same style of navigation as the older Monster Children site if anyone remembers it
like when you click a niv item, the whole page moves and repositions, as if larger page is behind the site and moving into position
im trying really hard to describe it, basically Im wanting to know how this is done, or where I might find tutorials

hallo man. I've somthing for you at http://www.ertdfgcvb.ch

yes MLVR!
basically I have an organisational chat for a University, a large tree diagram,
I want to build it in flash in such a way that you could click the heads of each department and the page would shift back and forth between, each smaller secton of the diagram as a whole
does thismake sense, how hard would this be to do? I have a big PDF of the chart
- blackspade0
hmmm teomat I cant get it to open, it crashes my browser
- MLVR0
hmm, i'm not very good at flash but i guess what you have to do is to create the 'first page' ie. the organisational tree as an eps or something and bring it into flash. then you have to create buttons for each link and do some kind of array that knows in wich topic you are and then animates based on that information. get me? Try flashkit.com and search the board and the tutrials/movies. I am sure they got something there.

you want to stick everything in a big movie clip... then work out what position it needs to be for your selected area to 'appear' in the cenrtre... dirty but would work.

http://www.actionscript.org and http://www.kirupa.com might have something, and yea flashkit offers lots of ugly examples but that's for you to change innit? :-)

Yer kiwi right, so perhaps you hang out on australian infront? they might have something under help in their forums. there must be something about this, bet it's been done thousands of times. Good luck mate...

here is the HORRID chart as it stands
they want me to update this, Ive told em no way, im re-doing it entirely
- JamesEngage0
this might get you started...
if you have a big chart that starts at 0,0.... and is 1000 * 1000 wide and is shown on a 640 * 480 stage... where would the chart need to be displayed so you see the bottom right of the chart....
X = 640-1000 = -360
Y = 480-1000 = -520once you get your head around it... you'll have sleepless nights with code ideas going around in your head, just like me :)
- blackspade0
hey thanks James, i know what u mean
- blackspade0
ok this is what ive done so far, still just a draft

this might be a better way, its slightly hard to control for a novice. This isnt the entire chart.
any thoughts?

blackspade, check this one out...pretty amazing navigation also!
http://www.billyharveymusic.com/…
your navigation might be a little too difficult for the normal average user, which im assuming is gonna be your audience yes? Is there a reason i cant pan to the right?
- blackspade0
heathen that site is dope!
yea i know what u mean about the average user, im gonna ditch that one in favour of somthin much simpler
http://webdev1.otago.ac.nz/~phut…
so u can drag and then have a simple zoom in scroller
