Hey guys... do any of you know the legalities of putting a track or a portion of a track from a recording artist on a site? From what I know, they just send you a cease and desist letter if they wish you to take it down. Is this correct? I mean, I am willing to give proper note of the originating artist, but do lawsuits typically happen over situations like this? (unless I'm sure it is a big company like coke). I guess I just see it as more advertising for the artist if anything. Que pasa here?

Dude it's not outrageously expensive to work out some royalty payment, just do that. It's a hell of a lot less expensive than paying a lawyer for a court case. Contact whoever owns the rights and see what their rate is.
