Actually, I haven't set up the interview yet but I was contacted by a firm I'm interested in working with. The bad thing is that the starting pay is about 10k less then what I'm making now.
Anyone ever have this happen? Is there a chance I could talk them up to at least my salary? suggestions, comments, cusswords?

negotiate. it can't hurt. if they are really interested in you they will hear you out. if they don't, move on.

that's what I figured, but I needed a nice neutral confirmation on it.
thanks

Trust me on this;
If they're going to grab people off other firms, they damn well better offer AT LEAST what you are making now. They know this, they are just waiting for your counter offer.. or they are waiting to see if you're gonna accept their first suggestion.
I know how these things work. I've had it happened to my people, I've recruited people myself from other firms, and I've been recruited myself that very same way.

er.. i just read the part about you filing an interest with them.. Sorry, that's different. You may just have to accept what they are offering.
Please disregard from post above.

I want to get out of the place I'm in right now. I hven't made that known to them, though

..ooops got hasty....anyway, I'm curious if I should make it known up front that what I makes exceeds what they are offering as a starting salary.
