on another note i don't think female designers position themselves explicitly as being female in this business just as designers hence that google won't turn up a lot.

(nov 18 04, 01:45)thank god someone made that point.
the other day we had a talk at work from one of the pentagram founders, he was running through a lot of pentagram's well known work, and showed some awesome stuff. but he was pretty oldschool with his attitudes, and he came out with this embarrassingly sexist statement of how not many women make it to the top in pentagram, said there were loads of women working there but hardly any at the top, and said that women actually make better designers than men but seem to get to a certain level and no further, then he speculated about how maybe this was because they didn't really want to have that sort of commitment. (!!) It was particularly awkward because our design dept happens to have a very high number of women in the top positions, and they were all sitting there clearing their throats and saying how strange.
Anyways the point i was making was that when he was going through the work he'd always say "and this was by one of the female designers" if it was, otherwise it was just taken as given that they were male. and it bugged me.

It's a sexist world and it's easier for guys to become celebrity designers and be regarded as "legends" than women - who aren't allowed to be "legends" in anythng.

vespa, that is indeed a very oldskool kindaguy. very backward mentality actually.
they should show him various works he doesn't know done by female and male designers without mentioning who did what. and ask him if he can point out the ones done by a female designer. bet a $100
he can't.
