So i totaled my car last weekend got bout 5 grand to spend on a decent used car what should i get ive been looking at 96-98 jettas any other suggestions im a student so i dont really need anything fancy but dependable so i can get to and from school and occasional interstate trips out of town

this is the kind of car I have. '89 Volvo 240 DL w/ 225k miles and still runs great. Minimal maintence/ minimal gas and its a tank.

wholly crap 5000 to spend on a car you could get something reall y good with that, like a second hand passat or a new volvo. I am rocking a peugeot306 two litre turbo it only costs about three grand for one of those.

i'd second the volvo or something japanese.
vws have terrible service records.
go with a honda/toyota/mazda...very cheap to fix should it come to it.
