There's a 'discussion' going on at work. Would you spell the following as "Ey up" or "Ay up"?
Thanks. :)

What accent? Yorkshire, Scottish, Welsh?

Do you make good Yorkshire Pudding?I've not had Yorkshire Pudding in ages...

ay sounds aussie ay.
it can either be used to denote the end of a statement (see above) or, with a slight variation in tone resolving to a higher pitch it can be converted to aussie parlance for "Pardon me? I didn't quite catch that, would you mind repeating yourself squire?"

heh heh heh
funny thing is i have had a bit of a cold so I got smashed last night on hot toddies (whiskey, hot water, lemon, ginger) but I passed out before I could drink the last one....
woke up this morning and it's still sitting there....
taunting me....
so I necked it.
And you know what, the day certainly does feel better after a couple of shots in the morning!

if it's yorkshire i would write 'ey', pronounced like hay without the 'h'.
if it was a geordie i would write 'aye' as in 'eye'

haha soda it does you should keep a goon bag of that stuff under your desk for emergencies so you can have a nap at lunchtime ay.
- soda0
A goon bag?
Is that the same as a wino's pillow?
- vespa0
aw the mighty goon bag. every aussie lush's friend.
- soda0
ha!
yep that's what I thought it was.
An aussie (my sister in law) actually introduced me to the concept..."You know, if you take the bag out of the box when you think it's empty, you can always squeeze an extra glass out of it!"
Class!!!

Aye moth, I make a mean yorkshire pud. Yummy.
Vespa, my fella's Aussy... he always says 'ay' at the end of sentences. It makes me think that he needs reassuring- kinda like people who use rising intonation all the time. blessss hiimmmm.

oddly, I just wrote 'Aye-up chuck' in an email to a friend then.
So perhaps 'AYE-UP' is another option?
- nessdog0
but wouldn't 'aye' be pronounced as 'I'. I'd use that in a sentence like 'aye, yer right chuck'.
- de4k0
aye thas reet nessdog.
yes your right vanessa.

but I thought it was the accent that made it sound like 'ay' or 'ai'...rather than the spelling?
