Some odd clients seem to like sites that look like bad design after the beginning of HTML. Maybe thats what they are used to.

Go to a bar and offer to test the quality of all their beers on tap!

abizzy, shoot me an email. i've been struggling for weeks to try and make a 'simple' interface work using authorize.net. a form is supposed to talk to the gateway and blah blah i'm losing my mind.
maybe we could talk. let me know.
if i don't hear anything i'm thinking of posting it here if any freelancer wants to take on this small project for a little extra cash.
who knows. i just can't get it to work. :(
maybe that's why i've been a bit touchy the past couple days.

You can get some great work out of Pro Bono. Since the client is not paying, they are less critical and are open to other ideas. Sometimes they will take advantage of your kindness though. Just know where to draw the line.
Here is a pro bono site I did.

A lot of work for free....but ...hopefully it will workout.Just find a good cause. I feel better doing that than doing the run of the mill corp. work.

I like what you have going on with the 20First. The colors are rich and the approach gives a better footing/reality for a grassroots group. How did you make the contact with your pro bono project? Have they been open to ideas?

abizzyman, I'm looking for a part-time cleaner, that's different. ;)

brown,
Thanks! Actually it all started when she needed some super cheap but nice looking inviites done for a fund raiser. A friend of mine is a PR person in LA and she knew the lady, so she sent her to me. The invites turned out great...I need to do another one for the portfolio. I just bought some nice natural color paper, printed out a design of .... too long of a story, I'll post pictures on my new site when it goes live soon...but anyways it was a printed peice with vinyl cutouts...cost for 150 peices was around $70.
She has been very open to ideas. Which is also some of the problem, shes also very open to suggestions by her friends...who don't like the '20First Paragidm'. They keep telling her that by going with that then she is changing the name of her company...I just keep telling her...ok read the logo out loud to me....she says 'twenty first paradigm'..then I ask...are we changing the name? We're just getting people to think about it instead of forgetting it. So the logo is still on the fence.

What about a website with aim to unify the community of shoeless skaters deserted by sneaker companies which went 'fashion'?
Like.. www.airwank.com?Allright, allright.. don't shoot, I was kidding, you know..

i wonder if we can get some more pro-bono sites posted here.
the first two here are amazing.

My company did one about 3 years ago that I'm not very proud of. It was a noble cause but I've found, with very limited experience though, when you work with a client for free they are often the ones who are the biggest pains in the arse.

Find an organization that supports a cause that you feel strongly about. It makes the work much easier when you have an emotional tie.
Me? I'm doing print work for the San Francisco Bicycling Coalition.
I hate Quark.

I was thinking about doing some pro bono work too and sometimes I come across sites, that could use a facelift. But it feels kinda odd to ask if they want a redesign, since many make their own sites.
