Whn you say shear, are yo refering to the solid bands of 'stretched' pixels?
- SLAZ0
what do you mean "shear"...???
the blurred fade out?
- donal0
yeah, the stretched pixels - like the shear effect in p'shop, repeating the edge pixels - maybe i wasn't describing it right.
- JamesEngage0
I think it's achieved by not having much client work on and just keeping busy.
- donal0
thanks james, helpfull (and hilarious) as ever
- SLAZ0
i think it is just a lot of blurring, and starting with a blurry font

given that most of the frames that the effect happens on are stills my guess would be ... er ... 'photoshop'?
- mr_snuggles0
There was a tutorial on how to do that on someones site...I'll try to dig it up.
- brandelec0
masking, mosaic filter on one direction only (horizontal or vertical)
2 steps easy

*agrees with nice-land

Here's a tutorial, not the one I was referring to, but uses the same method...
- brandelec0
that works for still images but gmunk did it on motion
try mosic one direction, try it now!
- donal0
Brandelec, if you apply a mosaic effect to get those horzontal lines, how can you ensure the pixels are being pulled from the edge of the unstretched image?
i'll give it a lash and see what happens. thanks everyone.
- brandelec0
you place a duplicate of the video your stretching on top and mask it so you can choose where it stretches
- donal0
i'll keep you posted...

no joy, boyos! the quest goes on...

It's a part of the Tinderbox plugins for After Effects. Go buy it.
- donal0
can't someone else buy it for me? I've spent all my money on crack.
