Ah reminds me of the university timeline...
Brody, Carson, Tomato, Barnbrook
Then you graduate and go into denial of even finding them inspirational. Process was an awesome book, then bareback was shite. I like the site though.
ps Carson sucks!!!

is their site supposed to be ironic?

I guess they arn't working with any of the guys from AntiRom anymore.

What a let down from the beginning to the end.
Seriously they should hired a web designer with a a better hosting...

I would not say YugoP is at the forefront of design. He is at the forefront of flash expirimentation. The forefront of design would be the studios like FantasyInterfaces, HiRes, WEFAIL, Firstborn, AKQA and the like.

Have to respect them for trying different stuff.
I know I based my final year at college ripping the arse out of their style... Well them and Kyle Cooper I guess!
It has to be hard for any groundbreaking designer to break away from their past and keep delivering fresh new things.
It's hard enough to keep delivering when you haven't got a reputation, imagine what it's like when you have and the level of expectation is so great?
I can't knock them at all, they are doing there thing and getting paid well for it.f*ckers!

no way, you guys have your heads stuck to deep into webdesign only.
FI should not be in that list, but in the same category as yugop rather, same goes for HiRes imo.

let me be more specific - interactive design / Yugop wins

Don't you think that fantasy interfaces stuff is very close to a lot of the templated stuff that was on that site selling templates that was talked about yesterday?
basically a lot of components that are highly animated and all bought together as a web page...
whereas Yugops stuff just works a one beautiful piece of interaction... yugop is more about interaction, while FI is more about After Effects
- DutchBoy0
true james..
altho FI did some nifty tricks on that roadrunner site..
but i have to agree, yugop is so much more innovating then FI which mostly seem to be animated bevels lately.

I really don't feel that the stuff Yugo Nakamura gets most credit for actually sells. His expirimental work that he gets credit for doesn't travel over as well for client work. He has an incredible knowledge of flash that DOES travel over, but what "style" could you peg him into? He doesn't really have one. Not because he makes a choice to be iconoclastic like some of you would say, but because he isn't about selling and designing for clients.

Im an interactive designer - I admire Yugop because he always figures out innovative ways to navigate, which takes a lot of creativity and understanding how we seek out information in an online environment.

you guys are looking at the wrong Tomato...
You're talking about the Tomato that sorta fused with Curious Pictures (which is essentially dying out now).

These guys use to work in the above floor from the band, Underworld.......

I think you're confusing Tomato with Potato
- DutchBoy0
now that is better...
- DutchBoy0
nice!

especially considering this is probably over 6-8 years old?? (see the model of car)

FantasyInterfaces is really poor in my opinion, it looks always the same.
I met Joel bauman of tomato and have to say he is a cool guy, and I like the process and the way he works more than his style...
people as yugop or tomato try to find new new ways in design trying not using illustrator photoshop or flash but 'brain'.
maybe sometimes is not trendy but is nice to know they were thinking at what they were doing.
and that's not that common in interactive design now...
I also attend a reed kram http://www.kramdesign.com/ workshop once and his presentation was absolutely amazing
its hard to find his work on the internetz but he did amazing stuff in collaboration with architects Herzog & de Meuron and really cool installation.

the guy at the top had the wrong Tomato web site, I think everyone else is talking about the same Tomato...
- fullerc0
Aren't the guys in Underworld also the designers at TOMATO?
Beaucoup Fish was a great CD, what ever happened to them?
