this issue is very old, but i thought id finally ask.
mercier's style often looks like a blatant rip-off of tdr's book "2d/3d". same exact design elements and layout. am i missing something?
- autonoma0
Yes, you are. Arnaud's been in the scene for years. Long before that book was released.

yes, if you made a name for yourself people will jock you forever and it doesn't matter if you steal, borrow and rip off.

so wait.. being in the scene is one thing..but you never want to come that close to your contemporaries style for precisely this problem.
is it fair then to say that 2d/3d lifted mercier's style?
- airey0
that book sucks btw.
i love the tdr style but man did i feel ripped when i got it. talk about cashing in on your fame.

as for 2d/3d "lifting merciers's style" - Mike Place had been building (pun intended) to that over quite a while. You can see bits of 2d/3d that were evolutions of the styles he explored with wipeout and some of his other album artwork.

TDR has been setting trends since 1986

look at this -
http://www.lldt.net/ap_arnaudmer…the first screen in that piece (a motif he uses often) is suspect.
not all his work looks like that, and now that style is everywhere. but it has suspect similarities to tdr 2d/3d-style.
