Ok, I need expert advice on buying a printer and scanner from some of your graphic gurus. Is there a great printer out there for under $200 and a scanner under $200 that people can recommend? thanks, all help is appriciated

i recommend anything from canon. i have both a scanner and printer and have not had any problems with either. i got a canoscan lide 30 i think was $60 on sale and a s9000 which was $600, but i am sure you can find something good for under $200. i just spent the extra money b/c i wanted 13x19. i hear hp is good as well, but i haven't ever used anything from them. i have personally had bad luck with anything from epson.

i have taht canoscan too its teh best! i also have an epson c84 i got for free so of course i have no complaints :P but i thinkthey are leik only $50 too

dont buy HP thats for sure
shit software, rubbish updates and bad service
shit you dont need when you need to print something (fast)

my hp is horrible, it isnt really compatible with mac, prints slow (10 mins for 1 page sometimes) and the print quality leaves something to be desired... i recommend spending the money to get something that gives you good results otherwise you'll just be frustrated in 3 months

i just bought an Epson C86 for a cheap workhorse and a Epson 1280 for large format stuff.. and a 4180 Photo scanner. i'm very happy with all of it.. the C86 is super fast (compared to my 5 year old stylus), great bang for your buck.
look on Epson's site for the mail in rebates.. $50 back on the 4180, $100 back on the 1280, and a combined $70 back on the C86 when i purchased with new G5 and display.. that made the C86 cost like $30 canadian!

they are shit. go with the separate stuff. splurge on the scanner or the printer and upgrade the other when you can.
