ya know, people survived the past four years. noone is going to go to canada. I hated bush as much as the next guy, but why would anyone leave? I mean your personal safety isnt in jeopardy or anything.

I read a lot of sarcasm in that. It is very factual.... But just the idea of it is funny. Plus, it gives me information I would have otherwise not known.
Harper's is a respected mag but also has a lot of commentary and funny articles. Iwouldn't take it too serious.

People consider expatriating because of the general direction the country is taking. I'll have to admit that the right-wing bum-rush is more than a little disheartening.

Americans themselves have nothing to fear.

no one will have you, because the US has made it so difficult to enter, other countries have done the same. You're tainted goods.
Although if their are any harpers honeys who wanna pay me to marry them...

foreigners so badly want people to flee so they can feel more important. So sad that this is what they have come to. Little do they know that the democrats are much stronger than they can imagine and will weather the storm as we have in the past. There is no other country greater than America and it hurts others to admit this. Why else do we have more people entering our country than any other in the world. It is in the numbers. No denying.

Drama, people leave their miserable countries to come here and make money. It's a system they can exploit.

Can blue America dialogue with red America? Sure they speak the same language, but will people with such different cultural values listen to each other? Can the stupid listen to the smart without smarting? Can the urban listen to the rural without sneering? What if the red staters already feel the 'urban elites' have lectured them too much? What if they feel they have power, through their self-proclaimed representative in the White House, and therefore don't need to listen to the 'liberals' ever again?

I joke about leaving, but I don't want to give up on this country...
I'm not as worried about Bush as I am about the people who voted for him...
