Illustrator Issue

I am having this weird thing happening in the Illustrator 10.0.3 for windows. I am not able to select the blur option when i am applying a normal drop shadow effect!!
WTF
Does anyone have any idea what can be happening?

are you using the drop shadow effect or filter? does the object already have an effect or filter on it?

The blur option is available when you go Filter> Stylize> Drop Shadow you can control the blur of the show from there.
I wouldn't reccomend ever using a drop shadow though.

I know how to apply a effect, my problem is that the blur option is desabled in any of the cases, effect or filter
Why not using a drop shadow?

using the filter drop shadow - I have never seen it grey out - what are you applying it to.
I am just anti-drop shadow. And a long time ago I used the drop shadow in Illustrator - and got banding when it went to press.

yeah sure I also dont use it for press, am doing some graphics for web!
Anyway the option to mange the blur is desable, thats my issue!!
