concerning flight of bird
< left is bkwds
> right is fwds

"Black Albatross is an applied research centre based in the department of Computer Science at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand.
Working together with business partners to develop and implement strategies for applying computer based technology to improve their business."What the fuck is that?
Maybe someone in the field would know what that means. On a printed brochure the site content and the messaging would work but on the web its a different story. You are showing your brochure to the world. So hence it would be nice to see relevant information imagery on the front to get the idea. The imagery should match or relate to the brands collection of products. Right now its like a McDonalds ad having ronald smiling in an open field waving.

"concerning flight of bird
< left is bkwds
> right is fwds"..could the bird not be flying over head from right to left, into the distance? i dont see it as backwards, since the way the bird has been drawn (not by me) is facing the left

No.1 can work if a grid was a bit more evident/or there. I like the feel of it, just tighten up the structure/alignment and then let's see...
- blackspade0
when u say structure/alignment
u mean like the left alignment of the logo, navigation & text ?
- mr_snuggles0
I mean, you've structured the page in 2 distinct columns just carry that throughout. Figure a way to layout your nav to work within the structure you've dictated for the body/content area, that's it. I thought it was looser than it actually was, just looked at it again and it's not too bad. I do think it needs something, but I'm not sure what to suggest. It's very symmetrical and everything sits very evenly...hmmm...I will keep thinking...

thanks for your input, appreciated =) will tweak it some more

have not read everything here...
but if you want to animate the bird the best thing is to trace it frame by frame (you do not need many frames though) from a video.
i once (long while ago) found some resource on the internet with footage of various birds flying.. but i lost it. :/
perhaps, if you try google..
sort of like: +albatros +flying +quicktime

err. yeah... me and my silly advice, here's what google comes up with:
