Just came back in saw on the news that Dutch writer/filmmaker/columnist Theo van Gogh was killed.
Thoese who don't know him, he was very much known for his political opinions.
He recently made the film "Submission" that severely criticizes islamic women suppression.
also he made a film about "Pim Fortuyn", ironically.
As opposed to a lot of other countries in the world the Netherlands hardly ever experienced political assaults, so this comes as quite a shock.
also to me.
fuck.
rip Theo.

i'm a geek so i have to mention it's not really the second political murder in holland. you forget the major ones on de gebroeders de witt, floris v and ofcourse douchebag willem van oranje.
sucks though. really want to know the motivations behind it.
- MLVR0
It doesnät really have to be a motive does it? we had our prime minister, Olof Palme assassinated in '86 and our foreign minister Anna Lindh were stabbed to death in a department store one year ago. And polical motives has not been proven in any of the cases.
-They can as well have been victims because they are familiar faces. However it's always tragic when people get killed and of course it's very bad for the community when official people get killed. political motives or not.
- DutchBoy0
yeah i knew about w. v. oranje and balthazar (sp?)..
but i was actually saying the second in the recent period..
in our generation if you will.
- DutchBoy0
MLVR, that's highly unlikely he was jsut killed because he is a famous person.
Amsterdams streets are loaded with many famous persons doing whatever they need to do everyday.
i am almost certain this murder is political. 99% sure.
- rabattski0
well yeah i understand but that makes what you wrote even more weirder :)
i mean here (added recent): "As opposed to a lot of other countries in the world the Netherlands hardly ever experienced RECENT political assaults, so this comes as quite a shock."
- MLVR0
Dutchboy: i know what yer saying and i do agree with you. But in the Anna Lind case it was so unreal that she should've been killed by any other reasons than political but still it seems like politics had nothing to do with it now when they've got her murderer.

paul, i wrote that all in a bit of a light shock..
so whatever..
na meen? :)
- rabattski0
i na whatcha mean bra. :)
- rabattski0
and let me emphasize the me being a geek part.
now i know what you mean (as said) so this is not directed to you. but when pim was shot quite a lot of news oriented media hyped it up to *the* political murder of holland's history like there's never ever been any other political murders. and i was like, dude! so many people didn't pay attention during history class or what?
i mean, the murder of the gebroeders de witt had way much more impact (and still has till today) than pim's killing.
- vespa0
terrible.
- rabattski0
yep. that's good ol' willem van oranje. then again. i'm against the dutch monarchy so i'm not really sad about that :)
- JazX0
that's terrible. I remember the first. I was living in Finland then and they were sad about it.
- stewart0
yes, fortuyn.
i made this journal about that news for a friend who was in Australia back in 2002.
