i set up some graphics in photoshop and brought them into aftereffects and exported them as a .mov file...looked great, see:
but when i brought the .mov file into final cut pro, it looked horrible and pixelated. i even tried just bringing the photoshop file into final cut, but it looked just as bad...see:
any idea why this is happening or can you point me to a place that would know? i set up the pixel ratio as ntsc dv 4:3....tried a couple different versions -- even setting it up in PS as 720x543 and disproportionately scaling it to 720x480 to account for the difference.
help! thanks in advance

I think that may just be the screen rendering in FCP. I did a project a while back, and all of my type looked funky, even when I exported. But, when I burned to DVD, it was clear as a bell.

thanks....i was hoping that would be the case, but i'm really nervous about it and the project is due today...spent all night trying to figure out why it was happening and just running out of time.

its just the DV compression, it should look fine on a TV... but i don't know how good white text on a black bg will look on TV.. i've had issues with that before.
is there a way you can mirror your computer with a TV? thats the best solution i can give ya.

Set your RT to unlimited if your machine can handle it.
Never use complete white text. maximum 80% white

thanks...i think i'm just going to have to burn a test dvd...the wierd thing is that it looked just as bad when i exported the files from final cut to mpeg4 and some of the other .mov clips i imported looked fine...maybe the text is too small?
what if people are viewing it on a computer -- will it look that bad?
aren't most hollywood credits white text on a black background?

yes... but not pure white
80% white...

make a test
try to export that part of the movie in animation compression, if it still looks bad you are in trouble, if it looks good you shouldnt have any problem, its just a compression issue, it will be ok on a tv with the original dv setting..
am I clear? mmm maybe not..

Dude, i just emailed you a.mov file. Try that it is .zipped, only 128k isingle frame, but u can take a still in FCP and make the clip as long as required...
NTSC DVD is a weird one for sure....
Hope it works

i'll try it again later today and see what happens.
