i'm redesigning my portfolio site. it's still a wip, but i'm looking for some suggestions, fixes, dead links, nasty comments etc...

I get horizontal scrollbars when the profile comes up. definite improvement in readability over the last version. not too keen on the serif font in the body copy

i wonder if silly clients will actually find out the bars are poart of your nav... i don't think so..
i accidentally rolled over it and found out, but my eyes - searching for a menu - rolled towards the dropdown first..
it looks ok, but i think it might miss a lot of visitors.. they might click away or think you don't have more then a dropdown.
it's all dependent on how "savvy" (yeah shitword i know) your audience is!

preload your rollover images. I got nothing on the bars when i rolled over first.
also LOSE THE LINKS SECTION
why oh why link to other peoples work in your portfolio. makes no sense.
nice site though

hmm... link exchange (only if you really present them as external links) can help you show to clients where you stand design wise... what you think is good etc.
but it all depends on who you are aiming at..

same comment with preload
"i accidentally rolled over it and found out, but my eyes - searching for a menu - rolled towards the dropdown first..

"i went strait to the dropdown
i couldnt get an of your work to display in safari?

your work should speak about you not other peoples work.
Have a links section in your 'about me' page but dont have it so prominent on the homepage
- DutchBoy0
good point there, toeknee..
and yeah, is there supposed to be samples of work already..? cuz i don't get them either..

all the images should be preloading, i know ie will not preload them, i'll check.
i was getting scroll bars in firefox only when i increased the text size on-screen, but now i see what you are talking about. any fixes? i've got about 20px padding for the scroll bars on the layers, so i don't know why the side scrolls show up. i'm not too concerned if there is a vertical scroll.
do you guys say:
a. lighter colors on the bars
b. text on the bars / no rollovers
c. drop the jump menu
d. a. and b.
e. b. and c.
f. a. and c.
g. a., b. and c
h. now i'm just fucking with youmaybe i lose the menu and put them on another layer? i'd like to link, if for nothing than to boost my search ranking. also like dutch boy said. i don't think i've linked anyone locally, and maybe someone will throw me a bone and link back.
i wasn't sure about the serif for the body copy either. i just felt like i haven't used a serif face in a really long time and all the kids are doing it...
thanks for the input so far everyone. and there is no work up yet so don't worry if you don't see any.

yes perhaps some text or leads on the bars.. and move the dropdown to at least one level lower on the site (not so prominent on the frontpage!)
as suggested already..

just as above... i accidentally found that there were other links besides that drop-down thang.

nice looking site although I have to agree that the nav could be made a little more obveeous

The nav is poorly thought out and certainly not revolutionary. Why not just let everything hang, there isn't that much info there to begin with and it's not very intuitive. More information at-a-glance not this hide and seek stuff.
I think I see where you're going with the "caution" tape idea, you should break that shit out a bit more, illustrate some tape in freehand and run it across the top depending on the section. Go nuts with it. Make it look real.
Also, you specify 1024x768 yet the thing fits in 800x600.
- Bouncinsoul0
Yeah, the nav is a drag. People want immediate gratification. You have a window of a few seconds for people to "get it".
Kill the links. I guarantee thats the first thing most of us went to. Theres some really good links and they make your site look bad. I like the concept but its not practical. If someone wants to hire you and sees that your site isnt clear and simple, then you are doomed. "If his sites so weird, what the hells he gonna do to mine" type thinking. Just bein a straight shooter.

now THAT is hard to use :(

i must be silly : noway i would have found the bars .. make it on rollover or somethig. it's not obvious at all.
