does it allow an actionscript tard like me to use it like regular Flash mx, or does it only have expert mode?

use the behaviors pallette, Its not 'normal mode' but you should be able to do what you need.

will it be as easy for me to use as regular mx 2004?

expert only.
but you now have "behaviours" which are sort of a poor man's AS.
as paradoxical as it sounds "normal" mode was more difficult to control than "expert" mode, hence it's disappearance.

(oct 26 04, 15:04)to be frank, if you're using the behaviours panel you probably don't need Flash MX 2004 professional

It seems like they thought to make it more like dreamweaver. I'm no flash expert but you will be able to do simple actionscript through the behaviors pallete although sometimes you have to add some script form the actions palette. so its still kinda confusing. sorry, maybe someone else has found a better work around or go to actionscript. org and cut and paste the code you need from the tutorials. That always works for me.

since I'm about to buy studio mx anyway, and I'm currently using Flash mx, what I'm really wondering is, if I get professional (just in case I someday need it, for video or something) but don't really plan on using the "proefesisonal" features will it be harder to use than plain mx 2004?

Rand it won't be harder to use, and given your intentions it would seem wise to go for Pro now.
The "only" difference is that you get more with pro than with "normal" mx2004.
learning some AS would be well worth it though ;)

thnx MX_OnD
yeah, I keep buying books and tutorials, and opening them, and then all the words start to swim together and my eyes glaze over and beads of sweat break out on my forehead

anytime Rand. Are you in Switzerland?? Says CH in your profile thingy
- kld0
the books are tough but tutorials are ace for learning. when everything works and you can just go in a look at how they did it then modifiy it. Very helpful.

I purchased MXPro months ago, but I won't even open that piece of sh*t -
EVERY SINGLE TIME I go in and out from a symbol to the main stage or open a new file, I get LITERALLY a 4 second delay, complete with rainbow wheel- I ALSO downloaded the new build, and still sux - anyone have this problem?

I attended a Flash Advanced Application Development course not too long ago (using Pro 2004) - the class was split with half designers who knew FlashMX and half Developers who knew flash.
The developers had a much easier time in the class. If you're going to fo pro - make sure you're willing to learn AS or it will be a waste of the extra $.
If you're not going pro - don't expect to ever be considered an expert flash developer :)
