I've got £1200 to spend on a new laptop - what should I go for and why. I'm thinking of going over to MAC for a powerbook????

buy the dullest laptop in the shop.
it won't look so bad if scratched.
it won't glisten in the sun and attract thieving gits.
you won't look like a flash cunt.

Do not buy a mac! sure they look good, but you can get a lot more pc than you can get a mac for your money.
Further more if you have never used one before its a pain the ass they move stuff around just to be "different"
If you are into flash or anything like that...ofrget it renders flash very slowly and is overall just another good example of a mediaocre product with a "cool" marketing campaign.

I agree.
Desktop=MAC
Laptop=PC

For sure get a Mac, especially with the new speed boosts in the iBook line, there is no price comparrison, when you get down to feature for feature, that the PC world has to offer. And the Powerbook line just got updated as well. Go for the mac, you will not be disappointed.

Screw the laptop, buy a smoke machine, discoball, some killer e and dance the night away.

You want one of these - trust me.

I am thinking the other way.
desktop = pc
laptop = mac
(desktop2 = mac if you got the dough)

only buy a mac if you actually WANT a mac. if you own a pc, pc software it might not be worth it to have a mac laptop because you wont be able to use any of your software with it. however, if you actually do WANT a mac, by all means get one, i switched and wont go back, the spyware free system alone is worth the extra money.
