i can burn either of them, just need to know which one will play best on as many dvd-players out there...
Which brand would you recommend?

maybe dvd-r
but not sure...
all mac comes with a dvd-r reader, dont know about pc
- DutchBoy0
hmm... but dvd-r is harder and harder to get, it is all dvd+r now? so i assume this is better?
i need to know fer sure..
- zaven0
yeah, but if on a mac you cannot read a dvd + r...
unless you have an extra dvd reader/burner...
Anyway, this is a interesting question, I'm waiting for a guru to answer it!

you need dvd-r to burn video dvd's on mac, you can only burn data to dvd+r...
- DutchBoy0
yes but i bought my mac dvd burner and replaced the original cd-r.. the same model/different type is now available as dvd+r..
macs do not have priority though.. it should play well on dvd-players for home use and pc's..
- DutchBoy0
really, neuarmy??
and if i have a dvd+r burner??
- DutchBoy0
ok let's avoid macs here for a second.. what if i have it burned elsewhere and it should play on as many systems.. what would be best choice??

I use dvd + r at work for well video and I have never had one returned to me I am recording proper video aswell you know sdi outputs and all that so I would say +r. I can confirm they can play in macs and pcs and they will play in pretty much every dvd player aswell :) do you know anything about compressor??
- DutchBoy0
i used compressor only once. for this project. before that it was all Bitvice ( http://www.innobits.se/ ) ... i am not sure about resizing in Compressor chossy. But i do recommend to try QT pro if ye 'ave it! goodlcuk!
question:
what burner do you use for the DVD+R? are ye on a mac?cheers,
- chossy0
I use a dedicated burner not a drive in a computer, It is a phillips something or other. So you cannot author your dvd's it just records what you feed to it. I use dvd+r however and like I said nothing has ever been returned to me and I play back on a very cheap player and on a panther mac and a pc lap top as checks to see if it works and it always works. Cheers about compressor I have sorted something out.. it was a bit sweaty there for a second!

We use Verbatin (or is it Verbatim?) here at work. We've probably made at least 500 DVD's the last month and they all came out perfectly.
Always go with the big guys, Verbatin / Agfa / Sony / Memorex. Avoid cheap no-names, the buck you save buying them is eaten up by the big headache you get from actually using them.

cheers, jox.

i burned some backup data at work on a dvd-r and when i got home.. my old (4+yr old) dvd rom drive couldn't read it.. older tech relies on +r i beleive

i jsut talked to an expert in the field he told me dvd-r is actually more compatible then +r, but +r is jsut more popular since it is supported by most pc dvd-burners..

it's been my experience that dvd+r works better for data dvds and dvd-r works better for video dvds.
these are by far the best (and cheapest!) dvd-rs i've ever used. not one coaster.
- DutchBoy0
thx fritz..
but i am in the netherlands and need it very soon..

-r for movies.
Apple switched from +r to -r when they started bundling their iDVD software.

So Memorix is ok?
- DutchBoy0
memorex i meant..

I've used a shitload of their CD-R's and they were cool, so I s'pose teh DVD's are, too.
