yes, i heard Christiania is the shit! like amsterdam without the frat boys and tourist. keep a lookout for shows with a punk band called NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS.... they kill!

Can anyone tell me more about costs in and around Copenhagen? My lodging is taken care of and I want to spend b/n 10-14 days there. Does $1000 USD sound reasonable for booze, food, transport, one or two nights of hotel etc?

if you're able to I'd advise taking twice that.
There's so much quality stuff to spend you money on. Also not everywhere but alot of places are very expensive.....
gf and I paid 100.-- Kr for a pint of beer and a large latte (that's almost $20 USD....) most places aren't that expensive but just to give you an idea..

hmm $2000 USD, that's what I was afraid of. I'm told the prices are similar to San Francisco or NYC. Would you agree?

$1000 = 5880 Dkr
that will keep you busy with booze food etc. for more than a week.
Bus and Subway is fairly cheap, but there is also bike all over to city you can use freely, they are red and weird looking but they do the job well
I you are looking to buy some nice thingys look in Illum, they have it all, but bring another half a grand for that.
but like i said, with $1000 you will get a long way.. just avoid resturants on Strøget (the main shopping street ), take the sidestreet places instead.. there you pay for the food, not the location..
I spend a week there just before xmas, and i was not sober one day, and i still got out of it spending less than a $500..
