A very very cool guy who rocked the artworld with his early video work in the 1970's.

I told him about our dissedent art billboards ( see PBS post to left ) and he really liked them. I love it when meeting someone you really respect exceeds your expectations and is a positive experience.

He lectured at a local University (Rose-Hulman) last night, mainly architecture, ok stuff. The man is not a great public speaker. The work was eh. Talkin about screwing pieces of metal into people's bones to make a portable home. A lot of people left during the speech. Kinda feels like he's just doing architecture on a whim.
The worst was his idea for the world trade center which was, and I shit you not, a blown up building with holes and shit all over it. Like a piece of swiss cheese. "Then the terrorists will look down and say 'oh, let's not get that one, it's already blown up and someone else already got it.'" It was just a terrible 3d model with some very bad random generation of shit going in an out of a cube.

Yeah dude, I was there. I stuck around and talked to him. I think he's got a tick that makes him lecture funny, but in person he was more eloquent.
I didn't care for the architecture stuff at all, I think he would give a way better lecture if wasn't to engineers. You gotta admit that comment about how museums were made to look like rich people's homes was awesome though.

I thought it was shitty that people left. I had enough respect for a virtual stranger to listen him speak for the full time.

I went to a lecture of his once. (I share most of the same sentiments about his speaking and architecture practice)
Yes he does have a speech "tick". I went because I loved his early work (performance). He is a great personality. But yeah the swiss cheese WTC was not impressive...huh?
