Anyone know why it is whenever I explicitly transform something in illustrator for example: I want a rectangle, measuring 1020mm wide. When I enter the info in it always goes to 1019.9999 mm.
Ultimately it doesn't matter, but I like a program to do what I tell it to exactly how I tell it.
Using Illustrator CS BTW.

it might be to do with the line weight on your object.

In the transform pallette, set the refference point to be meassured from the upper left corner. Then make sure that the refference point is set to a full pt corridinate. This will not work if you have set your general units to measure in millimeters, when you created your document.
(You can still enter mm values in your transform pallette, they will just get recauculated to pt. insteed.
Hope it makes sense. :)

Honestly, well thought out response seems logical but unfortunately not the case. The object doesn't have a stroke, or line. It's strictly fill.

ah, well in that case, you've broken it and you must take whatever cd's in your computer's drive out immediately. Then, unplug it and pick it up (bend those knees), and lean it against your window sill while you open your window up fully, and chuck it out, spitting after it as it goes down and shout 'computers! – who needs them!' and go to the pub.

I depends on how you are positioning the thing and if you have a stroke on it or not. When you are transforming, let's say a regular rectangle into some rounded piece it'll do that.

entering the value a second time will make it go to what you want.
dunno why it does that...annoying.

islandbridge: won it, he's right, illustrator seems to translate mm into points. anything measured out in points will render perfectly however mm not the case always a bit of give probably depending on whether the math works out.
josimarx: I have to fight the urge on a daily basis.
GreedoLives: entering the value a second time on my system still gets the same response, or even a third time.
