that, when you move pictures in a file, renames them to their new order.
Like, I have:
1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpgand i move 3.jpg between 1.jpg and 2.jpg, like so:
1.jpg
3.jpg
2.jpgis there something that'll auto-rename the files back to:
1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpgPreferably something that displays a thumbnail while drag-n-dropping?
Thanks!

try a batch process file rename script in pshop.

does that have the sort functionality? i think there's a bunch of apps that do batch renaming, but that doesn't help.

"when you move pictures in a file"
What do you mean?

Say you're looking at the thumbnail view of a directory of images.
If i change the order of the images by drag-n-drop, i'd like the names of them to change, numerically, too. so, when i view by name, it retains that new order.

You might want to try using a proper media management program like iView Media Pro (which will give you SO many sorting and other management functions like batch renaming, annotation, html gallery and contact sheet generation, slide shows, multiple view settings, sets by various criteria, etc) instead of trying to customize the basic desktop folder functionality...
