I just formated my computer, after backing up my old HD I copy pasted my library/mail/preferences to my new computer.
I can see all my MAIL folders, but the SENT and INBOX ones.
is there a way I can recover those folders?thanks

they might appear if you send a new email or set up an account inside mail.app

were the prefs sent to leave messages on the server before you reinstalled?
- Meeklo0
no, I dont need the ones on the server, I need the ones that I had on my computer.
wich I had when I did the back up, but now they are not coming up.
I need to read some numbers from those emails, is there a way to do it?

you can set the prefs to download and delete what's on the server, or download copies. if you downloaded the copies, se if you can sink it with your mail server and they should be there if you saved sent items on your server. sorry if i confused you.

thank john..
but I think I confused you earlier..The sent folders that im looking for it was on my computer, inside Mail.
the server has nothing to do in here, I should be able to get it without even going on line.see what Im talking about now?

i see. if you have save sent items on in your mail server settings, it will save regardless of where or what programs the message comes from. if you didn't modify these settings, you may be screwed. i just looked and all messages are stored under >home>library>mail>account name>sent items. i guess if you didn't copy your home directory over, your are kind of screwed.

well I backed up my entire hard drive, before I format it..
shouldent it still be in there?thanks for your replys man, I think I might be kinda screwd huh?

copy you entire home directory. it should be in there.

Outbox is In Users>you>Library>Mail>Mailboxes you have Outbox.mbox
but the Inboxes are related to each account you set up (even though Mail shows all your different accounts Inboxes as one Inbox with subsections in the interface).
So Inbox files will be in Users>you>Library>Mail>(account folder)
You shouldnt need to be digging around anyway... Have you tried using Find to search for all files on your computer that start with (or even contain) "INBOX"?
and... if you have an IMAP (not POP) account (such as .Mac), your Inbox contents will still be on the server and will synch down to you rcomputer when you setup the account again.

File > Import Mailboxes
you should actually move your backup out of /library/mail
then when doing the import just brows to your backup file and import each mailbox folder you want
- ribit0
and I'd recommend moving to IMAP...then you never need to worry about local re-importing or data loss if a drive fails.. it all stays on the server, and you just setup the account and synch it all down to make a new local copy... You can get reasonable deals on 1GB IMAP accounts these days (or a few hundred MB of IMAP-accessible storage as part of your webhosting)
