not guilty,
come on, they even tried to persuade his friend not to go..
his friend is responsible for his act of driving drunk, and had (unfortunate death penalty) (by killing almost an entire family.)
would someone take bush to trial for sending troops that kill innocent people with irresponsible decisions??
guess not....

I agree, you can't blame your actions on someone else, but plenty do...smoking, fast food...
"Where's there's blame there's a claim...."
'It's not my fault I was drink driving, the larger was too strong' isn't a million miles away from 'Mcdonalds didn't tell me I'd get fat' kind of lawsuit though.
poor couple though...

I see.. imagine the guy survived- i think the grandmother of the living child would never think that no one would be responsible but the driver- of course she'd blame only him and ask for the highest penalty.
the problem is that having the guy died, someone shuld be blamed.
now people in France who witness this case won´t think as beeing friends of someone who drinks, but judging his behavior when drinking and drinving, - so how will it serve as a lesson if the couple goes to jail?? - in fact, they might feel some guiltyness but they weren't involved so that can't be a reason to blame them.
(my point of view)

"but judging his behavior when drinking and drinving ..."
I mean thinking twice when drinking and driving

I think the old lady just wants to see someone hurt the way she has been hurt, so if the couple go to jail, then in reality she should go to jail too for making the couple suffer..

Ridiculous. Every establishment that served alcohol would also have to be responsible for every person who left after having at least one drink. Hell, the cigarette companies are already paying the price, and people are trying to go after McDonalds, let's go ahead and tackle the beer, wine and liquor companies while we're at it. The we can hold the car manufacturers responsible for polluting the air with the cars that we buy and drive. And somebody please serve Mother Nature with court papers; her earthquakes, hurricanes, and ultra-violet rays are causing too many problems these days...
Wait a minute! I know everyone be responsible and accountable for themselves!
