Hiya,
Whats the rule of thumb for pricing Flash work?Relatively straight-forward animation (objects already created) and minor Actionscripting.
The client is fairly large.
Any wisdom/URLs?

you looking for hourly rates or a rate for the whole job?

I think hourly would be the best way to go.

Why not?

for me it varies, i do average around 600-800 per day flash freelance, because hand animation takes so long you can't predict based on hours (at least for me) so i do contract. another thing is the time they want, like a 2-3 minute piece is around 1400-3000, depending, under 2 minutes could run a client around 1000... my rates might be high, but since it's basically a cheap commerical your making a client, at a post production house would charge them 20-40k for anything similiar... so i always frame it as such when i discuss it with a client, then they know they are getting a good deal...

I get $10.00 for recommending them to templatemonster.com where a slick flash site can be had for $65.00.
Ya..
I charge per project for Flash sites- hourly doesn't make sense doing animation for me- usually if I like the job- the amount of hours I put in never matches the amount of pay I get- so sometimes I lose and get paid less then the guy pouring my coffee. It's a give and take situation.
