Please help me with my basic question. I want to warp some text as in the Thrasher logo. I've tried all the envelope & warp tools in illy but none give the effect of getting bigger on the edges like this, whilst remaining un-distorted in the main body. Can anyone help with how this is done...is it just type on a path? Thank you!

maybe try individual letter sizes and using the skew tool in illus to create that warped effect...???

or the 'white' cursor/arrow tool. select the the bottom of the letter forms and nudge down with arrow keys. tweak as needed. same goes for any slight adjustments above.
you may need to curve the bottom of the letterforms too

Have you tried the text deformation tool in Photoshop, then export paths to Illustrator...

Thanks very much. Is there a "quick way" to curve the bottom of the letters so that they look cut off? Or is that just careful work with the selction tool too? Thanks again.

Try creating a curved shape, then cutting the shape away from the bottom to get the effect you want.

If you are in Illustrator:
>Effect >Warp >Arc Lower
Easy...
