The 'Blur' feature is greyed out for the drop shadow effect.
How can i change this ?

as far as i know you can't apply an effect to an effect. the blur filter will work on artwork but since the drop sahdow isn't artwork but a in-use effect filter effect.
if you 'object > rasterise' the shadow you can then run the blur over it as you've turned the effect into actual editable artwork.
sorry this doesnt help.

but the drop shadow options have a 'blur' setting, which is grayed out.
when or how can i use it.
yes, rasterizing it and blurring it would be an option, but if the 'blur' option is there(drop shadow), why doesnt it work ?

where are you creating the shadow from (which menu)? I'm using the effect > stylize > drop shadow and the blur item is available. can you list what version of AI, files and colours / colour mode you're applying it to?

same as you, effect-stylize-drop shadow and blur option is not available.
AI version 10, RGB colour mode.
But im sure i've seen the blur option working before, but now i have no idea why its grayed out.
