ever have some weird sh** happen when you hibernate your machine.......2 times this week when bringing my machine back from being hibernated the screen just stays black and never is able to restart the programs and files that were open upon hibernation....and this morning i got a prompt that if i tried to shut down, that "another person is login to this computer and may risk losing data"
that seemed strange as i am the only user logged in currently, and i don't see any evidence of malicious activity

mmmm, no, sounds like a re-install to me. you got any service packs on there?

i get the last prompt.. if I've been using bluetooth or such.
i never hibernate though...

i don't hibernate mine because of the same reasons. whacked shit happens. also, service pack 2 fucked me royally. don't istall it. if you did, remove it immediately.

yeah.. to be honest with yah though, unless you are lazy, and can't take the 2 seconds more to save your files, and close everything out, i'd say just leave the damn thing on.. .
i've NEVER used MS's hibernate function after trying it once in win95..er was it 98... either way.. i found it to be quite shitty.. and i don't reccomend it to anyone..
as far as your situation goes right now.. i'd say yer f'd .. don't use hybernate anymore.. if you are on a laptop.. shut it down..
problem lies, not with windows so much, as the settings you need.. and the Hard Drive you are using.. spin down times, etc... some HD's can't cope with Hibernating, because of the way they receive power, and manage their spinning..
good luck to yah in the current situation.. let us know if you find out how to get your stuff back up and running without having to shut down..
you haven't been tampered with.. no one's hacked you.. it's just windows, notifying you that files aren't accessable the way they should be.. system files can't be read.. and i'm willing to bet your cache file cannot be read correctly because of the HD spin down.. thus.. windows wants to let you know.. (they customize their messages too much to one scenario.. instead of having a seperate message for this instance of not being able to access the file..)

.... thx guys.....i never used to hibernate, but started recently as more of a test to see how it would go.....
and it didn't go well, so i am going to shut stuff down again, and just leave the thing on

i've never hibernated a windows machine either. you've got enough options with leave alone/standby/shut down.
as for SP2, i've installed it on my work machine, my home machine and my home server and have yet to have a problem with any of them.

maybe this could turn into a good resource thread *
do you all ever turn off hard disks in your power scheme.....i 've never quite understood if that would be unwise or not
