And for that matter - the what's this font threads... they are looking for the digital file usually so actually they are using the right word.

no. most of the time they want to know what typeface is used and not what font is used. the article is correct. now if someone asks the font from a certain typeface than it's correct. geeez. hey this is the first one! oi!

In addition of its meaning as a digital file for printers, a font relates to an actual specfic member of a family. Example:
Frutiger Black Condensed @ 12 pt
Otherwise it is more right to say typeface and most cases typeface is what people are looking for which has been mentioned.
It has always been a pet peeve of mine. Type designers design typefaces, not fonts :D
