Let's actually discuss this for a change. I just read this article
http://www.macobserver.com/artic…According to it, a Windows computer crashes every 12th time it's turned on.
Now, as for myself, I admit that I have switched. I love how Macs work. I love the design, I love the OS - but this blatant trash talk is ridiculous.
"Windows 2000 has a failure rate of 4% and NT4 of 3%, whereas Windows XP is closer to 12%."
Over a 10-year period I have used all versions at least 3 years each, and that may be right for Windows 95 and ME, but those XP figures are bullshit. My former XP computer almost never crashed, whereas my G4 QS and G4 PB (using OS 9 and X) crashes at least once every other day.
Say what you want, but macs crash more often than XP PC's. Still, I love them more.
Discuss.

well,i had nothing than hell with my dell workstation...
2 months ago i bought a 15inch titanium and its a dream.really
no crashes, runs after effects smoothly with other programs open..
never going back back to pc.
i think a pc is only good when you construct it yourself...

yep...my PC hardly never crash.

I have many macs at work and two of them crash freaquently, esp. when I put a cd into one of them. I had to look through about 50 cd's and it crashed every second time thats 25 crashes!!.

The G4 at work with OS9 can get the bozack. But a friends powerbook with osx is sweet.

cd-> it only crashes when the cd's are scratched or damaged.

My PC crashes hardly ever. Next personal computer purchase though will be a Mac - I'm just a big fan.

Macs kind of make you feel good about yourself and when I first started working on one it was a refreshing change but I'm back on PC because they're faster than Macs, cheaper and better software plus I hate the way a maxed out window on Mac doesn't take up the full screen. Oh and I almost forgot Macs crash like 1000 times more than PCs and they're so fucking slow it's not funny when it comes to playing flash content.

Yeah I agree, with WinXP installed on my computer it has crashed.. well, not many times. I cant recall the last time it actually crashed .. I am happy with my pc.

I had a powerbook died on me when I upgraded to OSX.. But it was the old titanium ones, so kind of forgivable.
Used a dual 1.25ghz with 1gig ram after that.. Was nice at the beginning but seemed to slow down as time when by. Now it just annoys me when I use it.
Now I got a 3ghz HT with 1gig ram, Dell 9100 laptop. Very happy with it performance wise. Played UT on it with no slowdown. Pretty impressibe. Only concern is that its ugly as hell.
So now Im thinking about giving the newer powerbook a shot so it matches the 23" Cinema display that I want. Dont know if I should old out for the G5 ones. Dunno.
Point of the story is: Stability wise, XP and OSX are on the same level. Actually I havent had a system crash yet since I got the dell laptop. (6-7 months) But I'll probably buy Apple again because they just look so darn good.
End of story. Sorry for the waste of kb.

"But I'll probably buy Apple again because they just look so darn good."
that's exactly the ONLY reason i buy them too!
THAT and the fact that they are exclusive here!!

as i never restart my pc i can't say when it's the last time it did crash..
xp is very stable these days. my 15' pb is still very crashy.. but i guess that's just Apple Macs .. i never realy saw a stable mac system.. i've used them for years, there is always 'an update' down the line that is gonna solve everything and save the world, in between : it just crashes and freezes..
for me it's ok, i rarely use my mac , just watch a few divx on it in the train .. but i couldn't go back to macs for work, too much hassle and lack of speed is terrible..

I LOVE MY MAC.
Switched to a PC to do a job and I was furious.. After Effects is super crashy... I restared every hour or so.. Not to mention it was super slow compared to my G5.

true, I think it all depends on your set-up

I have a BRAND NEW DELL at work and an Apple G5 at home. The Dell is so bad that I had to bring in a 333mhz g3 powerbook (lombard). The g3 laptop has 128 megs of ram, somehow runs osx, and is so (and I mean SOOO) much better than the dell that it is unbelievable.
If apple went out of business, I would buy a typewriter. If they stopped making typewriters then i would never touch a keyboard again
