ok everyone has been wanting to do the design chapel thing and after searching and searching...I finally found a few things that worked.....mostly it was one suggestion which was to save the image as a gif and to get rid of colors to smooth it a bit...... well here is the toot for all those who have been trying to figure it out.......
original image I worked with
end result
I know its not design chapel but its basically how you do it..... you need to use your imagination and you need a lot of practice......
ok this is how I did it........take an image into photoshop.......try and marquee or extract the areas you dont want ........extract those layers and put them in another layer for later use......just get rid of everything except the piece you want to work with.......THEN.....here is the secret.......not posterize or threshold......... save as a gif.........and then use the color selector tool to get rid of the colors.........go down to about 3 or 4.......until you can see a shape to trace in vector......so its kind of smoothed already.......then go into illy.......and go after the darkest color first......in mine it was the dark gray.....use the pencil tool not the bezier line curve tool......I used the pencil tool.......... draw the dark highlights......... then do the lighter color for underneath.......send to back........you can be really messy and if you screw up use the direct color selector tool to fix the curves like eyou did it with bezier........use your imagination.......use 2 or 3 or 4 colors to get more intricate...... but thats it

Its nice that you made that tutorial but that technique gives low end results. (as in amateur looking)

Maybe its a decent tutorial but the end result that you got is pretty shitty.

I feel ya liquid.
But I don't think it's allowed to post a tutorial if no one asks for one. You're begging for hate influx.

I have the Design Chapel Tutorial.
It involves altering the colour values in the image too bring out the highlight and low light in the picture. And then drawing all the detail in with the Path Tool.
And yes there is a shit load of work to be done to complete detail like Design Chapel have managed. I would say at least 40 Hours+ wreath of work there.
Good Luck Then.

wow the thread turned positive......thank you.....yes it was quick and rough but the basics are there......with some refinement and a lot more hours it could be better and a style could develop for someone.... just thought it could help all the people asking since I was looking to..
