okay...here's an interesting question for you folks.....
when job hunting, do you think that having kids effects your chances of getting a job? legally, they can't not hire you because you have kids, but of course, nobody can know if that was or wasnt the deciding factor...I'm just curious.
any input
- brandelec0
depends on the job i guess
if you're talking specifically about designers, then its not a factor at all

How would they ever know if you had kids? I have never been asked if I had any...

I'd say nothing about having kids, where do you live? I mean you live in the US right? You could sue the sh*t out of them if you found out that they didn't hire you because of it. I don't think that's legal.

One side:
Having kids could tell them you sometimes may miss work, or leave early, or...etc.Other side:
Having kids could tell them your mature and responsible.

if they ever ask, just say you have 12 kids with 5 wives
..then say your fucking with them, it was 4 wives

Just say you have kids... but you don't really like them.

having kids might present a problem in the audition process in the adult film industry, especially if you are a woman. not too many of the customers get off on stratch marks. on the other hand, if you are a designer, i see no problems.

well, sometimes you have to leave work to get your kids because they're sick or something...so I like to ask if that is an issue...so that would be the only way for them to know that I have kids....and I need to know that
right now, I work for a dictator of a boss (serious old school thought) and I couldn't take one of MY OWN sick days for my kid's knee surgery so I had to burn a vacation day. I could only use sick days for ME. So for me to know if it's going to be an issue is important...it's not habitual, mind you...but sometimes it happens....and it may NEVER happen for me..

i'm not going to read the previous posts.
legaly they can not ask you if you have kids, are pregnant, or your age for that matter. shit, they can't even ask if your seeing someone.
why would you want to tell them anyways? make no suggestions as to if you have kids or not and go in and get the job.

i have found that having kids or owning a home could be an advantage...because you need the work and might not be as flighty.
single people tend to be the first to get laid off as well...at least that has been my experience. no dependents and such.
i wouldn't want to work for anyone who doesn't respect kids/family time anyway.

sputnik's right, it would seem to a lot of people that an employee with a family may have more loyalty towards the company, like the baby boomers
- xaoscontrol0
thats my deal right now, sputnik.
GA labor laws suck....right to work state.....
i work for a well known auto parts distrubutor who also runs a series of car shows....their view is that since thier shows are important to them, it should be important to you...mor important than family.

xao, sounds like you're answering your own question. You need to work with someone who is sympathetic to the rigors of parenthood. I don't know anyone who would let you take a sick day for that reason tho.

xaos that's funny...the ceo here said that if this company doesn't come first and foremost in our minds, then we're not "team players". that when we're old and bouncing our grandkids on our knees, we should say that this company was the most important thing in our lives.
i of course have laughed out loud at hearing this.

tell them the thought of knee surgery makes you sick. problem solved.
- xaoscontrol0
there's a difference between taking a day off because your cat died vs taking a day off for surgery...
I don't know...all I know is I need to get out of this place
woe was me.

quite a few companies around here will let you use sick days for family.
in fact, my company is currently reworking the paid time off policy to be a set bank of days per year to use as you see fit.

Tell them you have kids but they are still young, so you didnt get attached to them yet.

I once took a sick day to go snowboarding.
