Can anyone shed some light on the details of them. The company im doing some design work for have asked me to do them a press release.

oh man, that's a red flag right there
are you a designer? i mean you can put it up for them, but someone in your position shouldn't be writing a press release
press releases are very important, they shouldn't be confused with news updates
they are to inform the public and investors of significant changes and events occuring with the company

haha, stop bustin balls guys...
I remember going to a design firm for an interview and they handed me their "press release", which was just jargon.
My take on it is that it's an umbrella term for a company overview. I would ask the dude in charge what topics he wants you to cover...

Tough crowd. Apologies if it was a dumb Q. Im just a designer whos been doing it on my own since college (years ago). Im not clued up on anything that goes on in agencies.
