hey everyone.. this is just the rant of an extremely poor designer / animator who's about to go under.. take from it what you will.. comment if you've had similar or worse experiences.. etc..
basically. i'm fucked.. i lost my job back in july because of corporate political bs.. and haven't found much work since..
i finally found a job in a different state.. even though it's a 15k pay cut..I get all excited about it and then they take their sweet time getting back to me on things.. so that takes almost another month out of my timeline before i can start..
i have $70 to my name.. haven't paid rent this month, utilities should have been cut off like the 20th of august.. my car will be repo'd on the 15th if i can't pay for that, i've got an expired tag and couldn't pay for the fee's before my court date, so now my license is suspended.. i start work at the new place on monday.. however it's a 2 hour drive from here...
they got me an apartment up there for the weekdays and i'll be staying here in atlanta on the weekends.. however.. driving up there will risk not only my car's (which i can't even pay for) impounding... but also because of the suspended license.. could land me in jail... but if i don't go .. then i won't get paid.. and can't eventually get myself outta this whole mess..i'm thinking of calling the company.. and letting them know.. but i don't know how they'd react to all of this..
i'm 24 and i'm about to lose everything.. i won't even have a car to sleep in..
sorry for the rant.. but i'm sure someone else has had similar experiences.. and it would help to hear how they coped..
anyway.. this may be one of my last PVN broadcasts.. so reply if you can.. i'll check back from the public library if i have to...

Damn man, I really am sorry to hear that.
Haven't you got any family/relatives who can help you out?
Living in the States must be really tough..
Take care.
- 2cent0
what kind of car do you drive?
- dave|bxcr0
take care del!
call your mom or someone who cares... i know this sounds weird. i dont really know what to say.youre still sane you got two hands and two legs and a bright imaginitive brain.
RESIST!
best of luck to you

there are some people who care in this world : )

maybe go to those places that give you an advance on your paycheck?
also.. once i deposited a check at an atm.. i got the decimal wrong and typed like a million dollars or something. it accepted it and i got paid interest cause it took the bank like a week to fix it.
but i realized that you can widthdraw money after depositing a bogus check or one with a 'typo'.. illegal..but, if you *really* need cash.......
- buddylee0
sucks being you
- ribit0
It could be worse...you have a new job!
Worst case: Get a bus there. Stay there and work until you can set yourself up with a car again. Stop risking things...

yeah.. my parents would help.. but they got hit by frances.. and their place is condemned now.. so they are having shitty times too..
i'm just going to call the place up in chattanooga, and tell them my situation, let them know that i'm worried about driving up there right now, and hope that they'll understand and maybe they could help.. (depending on how much they need me up there)
thanks for the responses.. i drive a honda del sol.. i've already started making friends with the local homeless.. so i don't think i'll have to go this totally alone.. if it gets to THAT point..
throughout my hardship, i've always found an extra dollar or 2 to help those with none at all, Karma has its ways

sorry to hear about your situation, del.
i can't remember...was it you who posted a while back about some crazy nonsense that was going on at your old job?
did you end up leaving, or did you get fired/laid off?
- del_razor0
i worked at Georgia power..
i was one of maybe 2 people in the whole building who had any design sense.. the rest were corporate whores..
basically.. i was making my department head "look bad" because i was doing such good work.. and staying late..
she got jealous and paranoid, and terminated my contract as she was the one that hired me...
BS man.. can't win sometimes..
- -sputnik-0
so if you get terminated, are you still able to get unemployment?
that might help you out a bit til your new gig starts bringing in money.
- josimarX0
good luck, take the job, drive up there, don't do anything mad on the 'highway' and get your down and make some cash.
It'll work out, be positive...
way to go with the tag however! ya mad crim.

why not get a place near to this new job, then it wont matter if you have no car. And ask for some kinda advance .. common mate!! its doesnt sound too bad , at least you have a job to go to.
- Dita_kz0
hey del! thats some bad shit going on!!!
I would contact your company and explain to them your situation but don't go on too much keep it short i don't think they was to have your personal problems brought to work but if you explain to them could you help you out a short while then that would be ace for you.
I have alot of money problems who one of the companies i used to work for but luckyly the co i was working for at the time was kind enough for me to use the phone when ever i want or pop to the bank when ever i need to sort things out.
You'll be surprise as most people have been there before.
If you don't ask you don't get is what my mum used to say! Anyway good luck :)

while it sucks that you're broke, I can't really feel all that sorry for you. there's no reason to ever be broke in the US (aside from severe disabilities or something). swallow your pride and take some semi-decent job doing something other than design until you're back on your feet.
- 2cent0
yeah... i think i side more with gabriel on this one... i mean, why didn't you sell your ride and downsize due to the fact you had no income for the last 2 months?, seems kinda dumb keeping all these expenses of yours with 0 income. you also have to plan for these situations, nothing in life is secure and you should always have atleast 3 months of living expenses stashed away in the bank for when and if these situations arise.
good luck.
- canuck0
I'm sure you'll do aliright. Just make sure you set up some type of safety net once you start this new job.
Save some cash, get yourself some assets, then if the shite hits the fan again you can atleast get by for a bit. I was out of work for a few months and owed some bills got by through saved funds. The job I took is crap pay, but it's design and it's getting me by till something better comes along.
I know this doesnt help you now, but atleast you have some work lined up. goodluck.
- motormel0
del honey, you're a designer. the most valuable thing you have is your work, your ability. and hard times isn't going to take that away from you. take the job and try to stay at the work apartment until you pull through your rut and fix your car situation. c'mon your 24! most peops at that age don't have a pot to piss in and youve already got your career started. i know the south sucks for opportunity, i live there too.
- Oneburn0
I'm in atlanta. I've got a few projects you can take if you're interested.
- monkeyshine0
I know some Chattanoga folk. Where are you working? Are you the one who's taking some motion graphics job there? The creative folks there are very cool. Ask them to give you an advance or let you sleep on their couch for a bit.
- del_razor0
thanks everyone for the advice and words... i woulda saved more, but i've been living hand to mouth for the past year (due to back tax reasons)
monkeyshine, yeah i'm the one.. will be working for Atomic Films http://www.atomicfilms.com
they seem like a really cool group of guys.. i'm just hard pressed about bringing it up, as i haven't even started with them yet..
Dita, Mortormel, thanks for the warm regards.. Oneburn, check your e-mail...
