What do you wreckon?
What is the current freelance graphics market like in london?
Are there many of you that work purely on a freelance basis? How do you find it and where did you start?
- karlo0
If we knew where to find it we would only work 6 months of the year - well I would anyway!!
£4000 a month x 6 =£24,000
minus £6000 tax
£18,000 to see the world... again and again and again
See ya!

ALL of my friends and I mean all of them have had enough of design and want to do something else.
I want to travel - its the future

why so disillusioned?

why move from Nottingham Pollypocket? there is a big graphic design scene here!
From my knowledge of others experiences freelancing in london can be a monotomous struggle
- pollypocket0
kinda just fancy a change.
the bright lights of the big city, the arty scene, the music scene, cheecky cockney geezers and all that...

i'm not a designer but i've been doin freelance development work for the last 6 months and i think it's top. more money, more free time, no pissy middle-management.

I know what you mean Polly. Somewhere like notty definately has a limit.
I've got a few friends down there, all seem to be doing quite well adn enjoying it. One is a freelance video director/editor and the best thing he did was to get in with the ad agencies. He has a stream of work ever since.
good luck

Are you ready to turn your back on Nottingham AND the REDS??
- UndoUndo0
have you karlo?
- karlo0
Yes I have UndoUndo :(
However, in my defence I purchased a Forest romper suit for my friends newborn baby and a silver pin badge for me only yesterday.
Come on you REDS
- UndoUndo0
fantastic.

Been in the smoke for 6 years.
What the design industry like in Notts?
My mate used to work at Linneys in Mansfield and then moved to Boots
He stayed there for two three years and has now moved to London
How nice would it be to nip down the M1 2 junctions as opposed to a shitty tube ride every day!?
- UndoUndo0
yeah theres quite a bit going on. a lot of small new agencies in the re-developed lace market and a few big players like linneys and broadband comms.
to be honest though somewhere like notty has a limit. I was at spittlefields market off old street on sunday - really nice. you get jack shit like that here really.
I think things are slowly getting better. If your fresh here its cool for a few years!!
:)
enjoy the weekend
- pollypocket0
yeah. completely agree.
i also went to spittlefields market a couple of weeks back. quality. that and a night out in the farringdon area kinda convinced me I've got to give it living in london a go, for a year or two just to see if I like it.and no worry of turning my back on the reds as i'm a northern bird through and through....
