I've just had some work ripped off from me pretty bad.
What do you guys do to protect yourself from this, watermarking, etc. The more details the better.
- JazX0
well someone can always imitate your style and there is no harm in that. So many great artists have done it throughout history. Are you referring to photography? Like you said watermarking or using JS to disallow a DL.
- MrDinky0
can i see the work?
- MrDinky0
you can never stop someone from ripping..
as long as they dont get famous for it..
watermark and JS dont work too well..
watermark = photoshop it
JS = just go to your browser cachebelieve me i have done alot of ripping in my life..

I would tell you in detail, but you would then rip my process, thus the dilemma and irony.

Yeah I got a bastard that is probably gonna do the same to me. He can afford the work I did for him so now he his gonna probably knock it off! UGH!!! Don't know what to do either. *bashes head into monitor*

two words....
gay porn.
Get a domain name like - www.johnsmith.com (insert name of dumbass who jact you there). Just create a frame that links to a gay porn site. Then, send an annonymouse email to him, his clients, family, friends, GF, etc. Good times. Watch the guy back peddle like a mofo.

Actually it wasn't a "rip".
I sent a low res file for approval in the beginning and he actually got another designer to blow it up and make it look usable.
He used my artwork for himself.

Then a baseball bat and a few hardcore muther fuckers is in order.
If I were in Philly I'd do it for free.

Every piece of creative work is protected by copyright. So you are already protected providing the work itself hasn't infringed anyone elses copyright.
What kind of work is it?
I'm an ethics and legal advisor for the association of illustrators so know a thing or two about copyright

Thanks man, after the beating all the drinks are on me!

Ell, that's awesome, you're just the person I need to talk to.
It was an album cover design. Put out by a record label.

most of our 4 legged friends urinate on trees and firehydrants and stuff to claim ownership, but i don't think you can make much ground peeing on your clients server. if you get caught, that just might get you arrested. and believe me, you don't want to spend time in the pokey...
- arinya0
G A Y P O R N and baseball bats!
why did i think of that!
- nextseason0
robotron, i don't know what you mean
- derek30
i had a compnay once that refused to pay me. once i threatend to take them to small claims.. they instanly payed me!
- nextseason0
Was your threat in the form of a certified letter or just an email?
- Ell0
Well if they have used your album cover design without paying you then it sounds to me like there is a copyright infringement
I'd have to see your low res version and the final version before making a judgement.

can I email you?
