ok so just a quick question....say i wanted to set up an online shop and take mail-orders would i need to register it (in the UK) like you do with "real-life" business'? or can u just trade straight off?

we are opening a uk branch of our company, and the legal mumbo jumbo we had to do to get legal rights to do business online was outrageous.
they wouldn't even register us as a business until we had a physical office.
dunno if that helps.

I set up a shop here http://www.loopkit.com selling CDs, I tied in Miva and PayPal and it works. :)

Setting up the online store doesnt require any sort of registration (but you may need to get a merchant account as part of your payment processing)...and you may need to have a sales tax nmber as part of your payment processing.
The business registration(whether a limited company, freelance or whatever) are separate to the way you make your sales...
You can use a home address or accountants address as the registered business address too...no need for a separate 'real' office.
