Maybe you had good experience with proactive -leah-, but I took it in high school and it did nothing.
I didn't have really bad skin or anything but was tired of it breaking out, and realized Dr. prescribed antibiotics were no good. Your body develops an immunity to them over time.
Eventually went on acutane and it did the trick. Some terrible side effects and you get depressed and have to get blood taken each month, but it pretty much cures it.
It's all in your pores and all in how much oil your skin produces. Modified diet can certainly help tremendously.
As always, good daily hygiene and the right face soap and face lotion can do wonders too.

I had the same exact thing happen to me... it was scabbies a skin parasite ...it sucked but its cool because people ask me what I did this summer and I tell them I got scabbies.
If you itch a lot at night then for sure they are on your body.
